ArroPoint3

New ArroPoint3 Installation

ArroPoint3 for ArroAlerts

A golf course irrigation system comprised a mish-mash of automation controls. A PLC for the treatment plant, an irrigation control system for the solenoids and independent constant pressure pump sets for transfer and distribution of the water. The trouble was none of these three systems really coordinated their information, and none advised anyone if there was a problem.

ArroTek’s Scope

ArroTek were engaged to install a system capable of providing alarms via SMS and/or email to the golf course superintendent and their team so the site knew the status of their pumping system.

ArroTek’s Solution

An ArroPoint3 unit has multiple industrial protocols built in, including Modbus Serial which in this case was needed to talk to the 6 pumps involved. An easy to use interface enabled quick connection to the pumps via standard RS485 cabling, and communication to the required status registers was easily established.

Additionally and as a bonus, the multiple protocol connectivity of an ArroPoint3 enabled simultaneous communication with the water treatment plant Allen Bradley CompactLogix PLC and Allen Bradley PanelView Plus HMI as well. More sophisticated “whole site” management of water assets became possible with multiple vendors’ equipment being connected and coordinated.

Advanced Features

The inbuilt alarm module enabled entry of multiple user contacts, and configuration to raise alarm notifications via a combination of email and SMS to suit the site’s needs. Editing and updates of these contacts is also easily achieved to maintain the system on an ongoing basis.

Easy configuration

ArroSuite’s “Low touch” interface enables users to easily configure the device to collect data from their equipment, which is then used to create “alert events” when triggered. When the event occurs, the contacts listed in a related group are notified.

Step 1: Connect Devices using a wide range of industrial cabling/protocol options to enable collecting/sending your data

Multiple devices to one Arropoint

Remote I/O, RS232, RS485, Canbus, Ethernet, USB – a wide variety of cabling options enables multiple devices to connect.

Communication protocols include: OPCUA, Ethernet IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus Serial, MQTT, Canbus – with more being developed all the time.

Step 2: Configure tags for logging and/or alarms

Customise tag names and descriptions, value scaling and more.

Enabling meaningful custom alarm messages to be sent, including the values read.

Step 3: Configure who gets notified

Manage your contact list and groups

Individual and group contacts can be readily configured for each individual alarm – enabling custom alarm escalations if the first contacts dont respond in time, a second group can be notified.

Step 4: Alarm Notifications via SMS or email to the designated contacts/groups for each alarm condition

Future works for the site may include adding the irrigation controllers, solar system and power for the course as well – all via the one ArroPoint3 device located on site. One interface to enable centralised access and control to multiple equipment – via a mobile or pc. One unit to monitor for alarms and notifications across multiple assets.

The next step: ArroSuite

See the link under Products/ArroSuite. This Business Intelligence/Dashboarding platform enables a single-sign-on view of multiple assets at multiple locations with intuitive and sophisticated event and operator logging. It can also be connected to your ERP, CMMS, or other data sources (eg:Weather, Spot Electricity prices, etc.) to seamlessly integrate for informed decision making, and control over your assets.
