Generator Upgrade
A new control platform
An old building power generator was in need of replacement. The specification called for two generators to replace the original, and some complex essential services vs. non-essential services controls for the building, together with communications to the BMS, ATSs, Power Monitors and other field equipment.
ArroTek’s Scope
Following award of the Generator contract, the OEM contacted ArroTek to design and deliver the control cabinets for the plant, based on their functional description and P&ID of the plant. ArroTek’s designed and built the cabinet to specification, incorporating commuincations to multiple industrial protocols and devices. Factory acceptance testing (FAT), and shipping, along with RPEQ and design certification documentation and “As built” drawings for incorporating into the total plant documentation. Familiarity with the existing Schneider and Emerson equipment enabled smooth testing/commissioning and site acceptance testing (SAT) was then provided to enable the new equipment to be commissioned quickly and efficiently.
ArroTek’s Solution
An Emerson PLC, Remote IO and HMI were used for the control platform in the plant, effortlessly communicating with the DSE generator controllers, Schneider ATSs and Power Meters, and driving local and remote IO across the plant as well as connecting to the building BMS. ArroTek is an approved Emerson channel partner, however our capabilities cover a range of PLC brands/options.
RPEQ and design calculations to satisfy engineering requirements, and full electrical drawings were also provided.
Procurement, fabrication, FAT and remote support to commission and SAT meant ArroTek as a system integrator partner provided value throughout the project deliveries to the prime electrical contractor and generator provider.
Advanced Features
The Emerson PLC/HMIs provide a comprehensive local control platform to the Generators. Alarm notifications, and secure remote access for operating, programming changes/warranty support and alarm notifications require a little more than just a modem. An ArroPoint3 provides all this at a very competitive price point. The inbuilt alarm module enables entry of multiple user contacts, and configuration to raise alarm notifications via a combination of email and SMS to suit the site’s needs. Editing and updates of these contacts is also easily achieved to maintain the system on an ongoing basis.
